The Benefits of Providing Access to Justice

A new report from Price Waterhouse Coopers, commissioned by National Legal Aid (NLA) and being launched on 27 March 2023, has found that the provision of legal aid delivers $600 million in savings to the community, government and the justice system.

These savings are demonstrated most noticeably in legal assistance preventing family violence and stopping it from escalating.

“86 per cent of all Legal Aid family law matters include a risk of family violence, and we’re committed to being part of the effort to eliminate family violence in the community,” said Louise Glanville, Chair of National Legal Aid and CEO of Victoria Legal Aid.

Your Story Disability Legal Support Evaluation Report November 2023

Social Ventures Australia (SVA) Consulting was engaged in 2023 to undertake an evaluation of Your Story. The objective of the evaluation was to understand the outcomes created for people with disability, their families, carers and supporters, and explore the effectiveness of the service model. The evaluation was based on service data and consultations with clients, staff and key stakeholders through surveys, focus groups and interviews. Download the report.

Your Story Disability Legal Service to cease operations on 30 June 2024

Your Story was funded by the Federal Government until 30 September 2023. Unfortunately, ongoing funding for Your Story was not included in the Federal Budget. Whilst we will continue to advocate for a national disability legal service model as part of the National Legal Assistance Partnership [the Federal Government legal assistance funding mechanism] renegotiations during 2024/25, it has been decided that Your Story will cease operation in its current form on 30 June 2024.

We thank all staff, stakeholders and clients of Your Story for their commitment and care in developing and delivering the service. The success of Your Story is due to this commitment and has made a real difference to people’s lives.
